As you have noticed, life is getting busier for me, so in order to take a break, I'll be closing this blog .

About Stampin' Pastels, or also known as chalks...

Using chalks for your cards making or scrap booking ideas is a fantastic way of adding extra color to your pages. Chalks can also be used to create shadows or to shade in the edges of torn or ripped paper.

Applying chalks to any project can be done in a variety of ways. There really is not any need to spend a large amount of money on specialized application sponges. You can simply use eye make up applicators, cotton buds, cotton wool all of which do the job just as well with a variety of looks, not to mention being a whole lot cheaper...

Taking pictures - tips from a professional!

Now that Spring is in the air, it's a good time to take your camera and start taking pictures, so you can scrapbook them later this year... maybe even digitally... So, I asked Vicki Barrett, professional photographer, and local Diva, to give some tips about taking pictures:

• When taking pictures of children get down to their level.
• Make sure the background is not to busy and taking away for the main subject.
• Take lots of pictures of the same subject, moving around to get different angles.
• Do not always take horizontal pictures. Turn your camera vertical to take vertical pictures.
• Move in close to the subject. Have the subject fill the frame of the viewfinder.
• Place your subject off to one side to make the composition more interesting.
• When taking pictures outside in a sunny situation, select Fill-Flash from your cameras mode options. This will get rid of harsh shadows.
• If at all possible when photographing outside and it is sunny move to a shady area and turn off the flash. Soft natural light (shade or a cloudy day) is the most flattering kind of light.

• A piece of very light orange gel over the face of your electronic flash can warm up the light and give it a more pleasing cast.

• When you first arrive at a new location, make note of any features that strike you. Try to find ways to incorporate them into your composition. 

•  Be careful if you are using a wide-angle lens to photograph a group. The people at the edges may get distorted.

• If kids want to look through the camera, let them. They will be more relaxed and cooperative. Just watch out for dirty fingers on the lens.

• Anticipate kids' behavior. If they are playing tag, set up near the base, compose your image, and wait for them to come running in.

Diva Coffee Break Designs - New Design Team

  Heidi Michel and Julie Semones have a new blog for the Diva Coffee Break Designs (sketches and colour challenges for you to try) and with it a new Design Team, although the first team is now the Senior Team, they just added more ladies to the team, and we are now the Junior Team ;)  (I hope that makes sense)

I'm very happy, and with butterflies in my tummy of being part of this new adventure :)   I'll be surrounded by very talented women! And I'm sure I'll be learning a lot from them.

Welcome little Diva!

Suzie's new baby girl arrived today! Congratulations to the proud parents, and brothers and sister!

So the sketch for this card comes from ICSketches by Dawn (who is giving away some blog candy), and the colours come from DCBD Color challenge by Heidi.

This is the result:

   

I used one of the new Texturz plates for the Big Shot to dry emboss the Pink Pirouette card stock. Eyelet Border, small star, word window punches. The words and the stamp for the star come from the set Nursery Necessities. And to make the circle rings... Yes! The one and only Circle Scissor Plus... Once you cut one, you can keep going, it's a great tool. However, I did tape the Almost Amethyst DSP to the glass mat, specially because I'm a beginner, maybe later I can just use the Dotto (removable adhesive) But the circles came out perfect!

The pretty Fleurette has a small silver Jumbo Brad :D

 

I've been playing with my new iPod, I like it because I can even download songs in Spanish, by that I mean Timbiriche, Kabah, Luis Miguel...  (I'm new at this, so I didn't know how to turn the thing on) anyway if you're in Mexico, or know about music in Spanish, I'm sure you know who I'm talking about  :D

  I told you it was pink, very pink ;D

Gift box

I just have to find what I want to put inside :)  The result is nice, it's just a bit time consuming, but it was fun to make.

 

 

 

The DSP is Sweet Always, and the ribbon and the card stock are Regal Rose. The inside is regular Whisper White card stock

Another great idea for Valentine's day, if you fill it up with chocolates, and love notes ;)
